Gordon, Philip H. "Principles and practice of surgery for the colon, rectum, and anus" :" Lateral internal sphincterotomy is used widely for the management
of patients with anal fissures in whom the underlying problem is thought to be one of ‘‘hyperfunction’’ of the internal anal sphincter. Some authorities
claim that similar dysfunction accounts for the occurrence of hemorrhoidal diseases (55,56). Consequently, partial internal sphincterotomy has been advocated to overcome this abnormality. Sun et al. (15) dispute this theory. Combined manometric and ultrasonographic studies of the internal anal sphincter, together with a direct measurement of the anal cushions, revealed that the high anal canal pressure in patients with hemorrhoids is due to high pressure of the anal cushions. The thickness of the internal sphincter is not significantly different from the normal subjects.". Там же "In patients with an anal fissure accompanying
hemorrhoids or in patients with evidence of a hyperactive sphincter, partial internal sphincterotomy should be part of the therapy undertaken."
Marvin L. Corman" Colon and Rectal Surgery", 5th Edition : "I do not employ sphincterotomy in the absence of a fissure. It is meddlesome, does not ameliorate the pain of hemorrhoidectomy, and may result in morbidity infection, fistula, and some degree of impairment for bowel control "
